As a long-term Northern Beaches resident, I am passionate about building world class surgical facilities to attract the very best in surgeons and specialists for the benefit of my local community. As a medical fraternity we are community based, people caring for people, each with a role to play to support the other. I have always believed that being local means so much more than convenience. It enables you to be cared for by your own in familiar surroundings.

In 2000 Pittwater Day Surgery opened as a single theatre day surgery to meet the needs of the Northern Beaches and North Shore population. Since this time, we have supported the wider base of medical practitioners and their patients, performing over 18,000 procedures.

With a growing population taking advantage of the Northern Beaches lifestyle, and a a growing trend towards operative procedures being performed in a dedicated Day Surgery Centre rather than in a hospital demand has outpaced capacity. To accommodate the growing market, Pittwater Day Surgery undertook a significant expansion and upgrade program, relaunching in 2018 as a multi theatre world class day surgery facility.

Working with the regions General Practitioners has always been our role to play and core purpose in the regions care cycle. Increased capacity has created opportunities for surgeons and specialists to extend their practices to meet the market of local health practitioners in referring their patients. Today we boast 27 surgeons and 35 specialist anaesthetists, with continued demand across all specialist practices, further strengthening the available services to our wider community. As we build our specialist base, the possibilities for procedures to be undertaken continues to expand.

I am incredibly proud of the team that is Pittwater Day Surgery including the diverse specialist skills, genuine care all our people thrive for, the passion we share to serve and our hard-earned place in the community. In the first 12 months since our re-launch over 4200 procedures have been successfully undertaken.

We will continue to go from strength to strength to play our role in the medical community on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
